This day, five years ago, the world lost one of the greatest musicians of all time: the king of pop, Michael Jackson.

Born August 29, 1958 in Gary, Indiana, U.S.A. Michael was dubbed “The King of Pop”, and ‘til today he is still recognized as the most successful pop singer in the history of music. He died at the age of 50 on June 25, 2009.

No entertainer could ever fill the void that MJ left behind, but his memory has not faded in the five years he’s been gone. Forbes estimates that since his death, his estate has earned some $700 million, including a new $250 million record deal; the documentary ‘This Is It’ (which grossed more than $260 million); two popular Cirque du Soleil shows based on MJ’s music; and the 2010 video game, Michael Jackson: The Experience.

One thing is certain: the King of Pop lives on.
